Skulls, Sequins, and Stripes

Last Saturday I had a kids Birthday party to go too, and it was Monster High themed, which meant I had to dress “trendy” yet still “ghoulish”. You know Monster High…right?

MH-monster-high-19778976-395-386

A spin-off of a book series, these young(and mostly dead) Fashionistas have a show, dolls, and everything in between.

So keeping this theme in mind, it wasn’t hard to come up with a little something spooky, fun, and appropriate;

Jacket: F21+

Cardigan and Cami: Old Navy

Skirt: Torrid

Tights and Boots: Sophia Vegara

Skull Hand Necklace: Twisted Mind of Mine

I wore both my petticoats under this skirt to make it extra poofy and girlie! This is by far one of my favorite skirts, I love the wee skulls(see below)! I must thank Susie and the girls over at Embellish Boutique for it! They are a great part of the Plus size Community down in Georgia, offering new and consignment plus size clothing and accessories. We are teaming up in the new year! Prepare for a Chubby Cruiser discount code!

A Nostalgic Thanksgiving.

New York City around the holidays-there’s nothing like it-It’s a city filled with traditions. None more iconic than the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade!

IMG_20121122_094030

Now you know I was thrilled to see HK’s debut!

IMG_20121122_100555IMG_20121122_101035IMG_20121122_100811IMG_20121122_102926IMG_20121122_101313IMG_20121122_101407IMG_20121122_094933IMG_20121122_103120IMG_20121122_103611IMG_20121122_104232IMG_20121122_104806IMG_20121122_105014IMG_20121122_110011IMG_20121122_113219

Click to see all pictures from the parade!

I cannot remember the last parade I went too. All I remember is that Captain America was still a balloon….YEAH, I KNOW! I felt like such a kid cheering and smiling from ear-to-ear, it was a great start to one of my favorite holidays. Most, if not all, to blame for my pre-Christmas jolliness was the fact that The Hubb and The Kid had never been to the parade! AT ALL! EVER! Their first one was with me ^_^

After standing around for 5 hours in Little Brazil, we rush to Mom’s to change and head to Long Island. Going out there is a tradition as old as me..maybe older I don’t know for sure. My mother is originally from L.I, and told me I spent my first year of life out there..imagine me in suburbia? Sitcom-status. Going out there is the last bit of my childhood I don’t ever want to let go. It has stayed the same for 20-something years, get there-eat-pass out, its hard to get that kinda stability from anything in this day and age.Cell phone plans included. On to my outfit for dinner!

All that really matters to me about this outfit are my coat and shoes. I love Houndstooth, and it’s one of this seasons major trends.

  • Coat: Voluptuous Vixens
  • Sweater dress: Dress Barn(gift from mommy :)
  • Shoes: Iron Fist for Just Fabulous

Let me take a moment and gawk at these platforms:

Now these are some edgy oxfords!

I’m 5’9” barefoot..in these 6 inch puppies, I’m 6’4”. Do I care that it makes me a giant? Chest, legs, and butt to the sky? No, sir..Do I care that it makes my already strong legs look as if I just shot em full of steroids? Well, yeah, kinda but that goes with them being 6 FRIGGIN INCHES! The higher the heel, the bigger/curvier/stronger your calf will appear. There has been so many discussions on how a taller/plus sized woman doesn’t “belong in heels”…screw them! If you love it, ROCK IT! Read my review of these babies here.

I have found the shoe-goldmine…and its name…JustFab.com!

‘Till next time!

Fancy meeting you here..

Is that too cliché for my first blog post in months? I cant help but feel I had stood up every one of you who still read this blog. Like I never called like I said I would. its not you its me..

OK! I think I got it all out..for any of you wondering where in hell I have been, I honestly don’t have the right answer for you. I don’t want to say I was turned-off by blogging, but it is difficult to keep up the whole “me me me” aspect of it. So, I took time off, enjoyed my summer, and I am back and have been waiting to get the motivation to step it up  this upcoming year. I have been lucky enough to meet and learn from other babes of the bike and plus size communities, I have the confidence to stop stopping myself from trying things differently!

I will take time to recap the busybusy Summer and Autumn I had. As my debut post, I am proud to introduce my debut in Skorch Mag! If you recall, I have been a blogger for them for a few months…but never really produced anything. And believe me, I have beaten myself up about it long enough. I barely made the deadline for this music-themed issue..I used mobile pictures that I thought wouldn’t cut it..of me in a last minute Halloween costume. I am amazed I even made it! Thank you Courtney and Tiff for having me in this AMAZINGGGG issue!

Click here to read the entire 187 page issue for free!

This gave me the kick in the ass to get back to blogging, take risks, and grow. I hope I still have some readers who have stuck around. If I do..thank you <3

New layout, pictures, and all-around feel coming really soon!

Tour de Brooklyn; CONQUERED!

IMG_20120603_094848

I realize that under a year as being a cyclist in New York City, I have accomplished quite a bit. I’ve also realized that doubting yourself is an almost everyday part of life. I’ve immersed myself in bikey stuffs for the past year…little did I know I’d be up on the haps in the NYCbikey community. Or even be part of it. IT FEELS GOOD! I cant wait for this summer..and I hate the heat!

I got my stuff ready the night before..Dress, bag, water bottle, clean bike.

IMG_20120602_233735

Getting up in the morning was a breeze, just as the ride into Brooklyn. I left about an hour and change earlier than planned because I just had to see The Hubb before wheels down!

IMG_20120603_084143

Sleepy dumpling..least I got a good luck kiss! <3

He headed to a Karate Tourney in Williamsburg, so we kiss and parted ways. There was another hour and a half till Check-in closed, so I waited for the Bee in front of the York Street station. Within that time-I guided fellow cyclists to check-in(Commodore Barry Park)..told them, to take Jay to Flushing which leads into the park…or Sands St which also led to the park. Remember when I said I knew nothing about BK? Well I don’t….but I did read my cycling map about 18 times. NO LIE.

Once the Bee arrived we proceeded to check-in, buy a shirt, and snap a few pre-tour pics

IMG_20120603_092602IMG_20120603_092303IMG_20120603_094053IMG_20120603_094112

there was a lot of friggin’ people brah..

IMG_20120603_100052Including Julie Fantastic from TA, a fellow feminine biker girl! Great meeting you hun!

Took a while to start rollin’ due to the massive amount of riders, but were finally off!

IMG_20120603_100846Grabbed a panda before we really got moving!

IMG_20120603_100837IMG_20120603_103056IMG_20120603_112943IMG_20120603_110915IMG_20120603_110929

Yup, that’s a fairy princess riding the TDeBK!

It was already a great tour of a Borough I know virtually nothing about…except there were toooooooooooo many damn stops! Least there were some good photo-ops :)

IMG_20120603_112719IMG_20120603_112409IMG_20120603_111626251872_10150845871555592_1505881114_n

Knew Id run into Bitchcakes and her bikey gang at some point!

took about 15 minutes to get moving again..and little did we know the halfway rest stop was just up ahead. So there was more time to get some more pics and pass out some more cards-BUT FIRST! pictures by the Verazzano!

Hermie has seen much in his 1 month of being my bike :)

Here’s a few of the peeps that passed me while relaxing under a treeIMG_20120603_115538

I’m a big fan of Rosie the Riveter, seeing this get-up made my day even brighter! ROCK ON ROSIE!

IMG_20120603_120316

IMG_20120603_120641

This lovely young lady is Isis….her hair made me crap myself!

What felt like forever once more, we moved on with the tour, and I relishing all there is to see of this mysterious borough. I was grateful for the chance to see this borough, no matter if it was only 1/4th of it…BK is HUGE! Besides it being my first tour in Brooklyn, there was a few other firsts; Like me riding it with my Bee

295073_10150845873565592_1253490565_n

riding it with a new bike

IMG_20120603_103043

and last but not a least…a new attitude. No doubts, no limitations, no excuses…I could do it on single-speed, I can take on hills, and I can do it all in a dress!

Soon enough(unknowingly) we hit the final stretch of the tour..Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park, and the BQE!

Before we knew it…we were back at Commodore Park, the starting line..REALLY?! its over?! Just in time though, thunder started rolling in as we turned that bend. So a few last minute pics were in order:

Hey that’s Jen from the Tour de Bronx! and an awesome recumbent couple!

So about here my phone dies. It starts raining. and I make my way to Regg over in South Williamsburg all by my map and my wits.

WHAT A DAY! Went home to gorge, rest and try on my Tour shirt

IMG_20120603_192133IMG_20120603_191745

The shirt is adorable! The tan I got was not. But the Urban Velo issue I was in was waiting for me, and that lessened the affect :)

What a bikey summer so far..no wonder I’ve started to slim already. SINGLE-SPEED REALNESS.
